We were asked to create visual identities for Platform Media and Folding Pocket that would sit under the Platform brand. We achieved this through shared geometry and by reflecting the brand personalities visually.

We worked with Orange Panther Collective to create a new brand look and feel for food flavouring company Besmoke, coming up with a concept that reflects Besmoke’s obsession with bringing flavour to life.

We were responsible for everything creative from initial concept through to branding, art direction, design and even created the original artwork. We rolled out all of the usual brand collateral such as brochureware, website and stationery but also unexpected things like branded surfboards for trade events which was a first for me.

I worked with the Creative Directors on this campaign to select a photographer and to art direct the shoot. I was then responsible for the final execution of the print ads.

I created a different pattern and colour-way for each car, to reflect it's personality and function. For instance; the Swift Sport model has a pattern derived from a chequered racing flag and bright red, associated with speed, passion and power.

The brief was to come up with something bold and straightforward that would clearly communicate that Ford is a big player in the electric vehicle market.

I looked at the four elements that make up the brands visual glue; the logo, typeface, photography and colour palette to come up with a new look and feel for Ford in the UK and Europe that would work in all channels and in all markets. I then created a style guide to be used by various partners.

During extensive research, the new look and feel outperformed the old one by at least 80% in every category.

Brand Identity for a pop-up Ramen company. The brief was simple “come up with something cool and underground, not cliché Japanese but a bit Japanese”.

The brief was to make sure that all of McDonald’s visual elements reflected the brand’s promise and personality.

We forensically examined every part of the visual brand and made changes to the logo marque, set principles for photography and created a new brand font.

Magners is made in the dark as light damages the product. We created a print campaign showing the product in the dark, lit in such a way to make it look refreshing and give it great stand-out. We gave the typography a projected effect to reference the idea of light and dark.

As well as the outdoor print campaign, we created a piece of direct marketing that focussed on the idea of darkness. The audience received a completely black envelope containing a black torch and a black card with the communication printed in UV ink, invisible util the recipient the UV torch is switched on.

Rooted in Ethiopian culture and developed with behaviour change experts, Yegna (yen-ya) is a multi-platform brand designed entirely to inspire positive change for girls in Ethiopia. Through storylines that confront real-life issues and challenges that girls face every day, the drama, music, and talk show are challenging the way people think about girls - and the way girls think of themselves.

We were hired by the Nike Foundation as an agency to create and execute a radio and print campaign to promote season five of the Yegna radio drama. Responsible for everything from initial concept and art direction right through to production and artworking, delivering a highly effective campaign that had great cut through with Ethiopian audiences both in the capital Addis Ababa and in the rural areas.

We created a connection between the character and the audience by having them look directly at the viewer and making intriguing statements that hint at the drama about to unfold without giving too much away. We also included vignettes in the background depicting scenes from the drama to entice the audience in further.

For one of the listening events of the show, ten thousand people were expected to turn up but due to the effectiveness of the campaign the actual figure was over one hundred thousand.



 

I was one half of the creative team that came up with this playful series of films that won a total of sixteen industry awards (scroll down for full list) – driving brand affinity and engagement among its core audience in the construction industry.

Filmed at the company’s Innovation Factory, with real employees, in a Bond-style test lab where a series of live product tests and demonstrations took place that delighted, surprised and celebrated the company’s Danish heritage and culture of continuous product innovation.

The films bucked a category trend, winning a total of sixteen industry awards:

A full brand overhaul for a leading Aerial Cinematography company.

Branding for a seaside Mexican food outlet. We created a bespoke font for the logo marque by creating a Mexican, nautical glitch font. The client wanted something bold and playful without overplaying the nautical theme.

Identity for Bee Aid which was an initiative conceived by Magners for the protection of Bees. Combining the traditional symbol for Aid with a simplified illustration of a Bee.

Identity for CHI & Partners recruitment scheme. CVs and photos have been stripped out of the application process to remove unconscious bias. We created a logo derived from the equals sign which we developed into a shape that suggests the idea of a spark or catalyst.

A self-initiated project with the aim of turning football into an experience and making it visually more appealing.

A Christmas campaign to encourage people to collect Avios points for themselves whilst buying gifts for others.

Subverting traditional festive imagery to cut through the usual Christmas noise.

This project started out as a couple of posters for a monthly Techno night I DJ at but I felt it necessary to create a full deck.

Drawing on science for inspiration to create a look and feel appropriate to the energy of the night and the mood of the music.

We worked with Fontsmith to create a brand font for McDonald’s.

The font needed to work in many channels including; densely populated menu boards, way-finding signage, TV, print and digital.

We wanted to create a typeface that would meet all of these challenges and reflect the values of a modern, forward-thinking brand.

We came up with the McFont.

We were tasked with re-naming the Black Friday event and came up with an idea that references the famous Henry ford quote "Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants, so long as it is black."

Identity for Crisis Management Consultancy

The client asked for something that felt fresh and modern. Rather than use a more obvious depiction of a Griffen, we created this three-in-one monogram. The Eagle’s wing at the top of the G, the lions tail at the end of the cross-bar and the nurturing, protective human hand in the negative space.

Through a series of ground-breaking consultations, 508 girls living in poverty – together with 25 of the world's leading development organisations – created the Girl Declaration containing guiding principles, goals and targets and is the tool to be used to stop poverty before it starts.

We asked girls about their hopes and dreams and what they need to make them a reality. From the answers that they wrote or drew on wooden tags, we created a piece of prose. Then, we ran a hand typography workshop with a group of adolescent girls. The resulting work was then transferred onto a tablet constructed from the original wooden tags. This ceremonial object was then presented to the president of the World Bank at the Clinton Global Initiative. A work of art by girls for girls.

We also created a photo book documenting the girl consultations and a limited edition print to be given to the signatories of the Girl Declaration.

When we created this Identity for the Little Fish film company, the brief from the client was that the fish should contradict the name and be anything but little and cute. We used aggressive looking paint splats as the basis for the fish, adding fluorescent pink eyes . The idea was that this paint splat could change in shape but always retain it's identity through the colour of the paint and the pink eyes.

We created this branded room design in the DFID offices in Whitehall, London to inspire the people there to do their best work for girls and women around the world. There are messages and statistics woven into the room through textiles, furniture and three dimensional infographics. The room was designed to cater for it's multiple functions; meeting room, seminar space, brainstorming area and general workspace. We introduced branding subtly through colour and pattern.

Special features included a bespoke coffee table/display cabinet, a changeable photo wall and a phone with pre-recorded messages from girls in poverty.

I was responsible for the original concept, Design and Art Direction and worked with the manufacturers to create the products.

The Arnolfini Portrait by Van Eyck reminded me of the kind of shot you might have on the the cover of Hello magazine of a celebrity couple announcing a new baby on the way and showing off their new home.

We liked the idea of placing some of the most famous paintings in the world in the Hello magazine format and so did the National Gallery. They ordered around 40 different products instead of the five they had originally wanted.

We were simply given the task to put something on the wall of the Tesco head quarters. We created the "Brandwall" to educate, inform and inspire the people who work there. The wall includes Tesco Chronology, brand elements such as logo, typeface and brand colours, documenting pivotal moments in the brands history such as the introduction of the Tesco Clubcard.

We created these posters for an event in the Democratic Republic of Congo using powerful quotes made by the victims of atrocities in the country. For obvious reasons we were unable to reveal the identities of the girls by showing their faces so we used cropped images always showing the girls mouths juxtaposed with contextual imagery.

Every year Tesco sponsor the Goodwood Revival Festival of speed during which cars from the period  1948 - 1966 are raced. We applied the iconic liveries and colours of some of these cars to various standard products such as bags and key rings. Sales of the bags the year we designed them outstripped the previous year by around 900%. We observed purchasers being unable to decide between the three colours, eventually opting to buy all three.
